Agency using charter flights to deport some Mexican immigrants directly.
The U.S. Border Patrol has used two charter flights in the past month to deport 100 illegal immigrants who entered the country through the U.S.-Canada border. The most recent flight occurred on March 13, transporting 47 Mexicans and one Colombian from Plattsburgh, New York, to Harlingen, Texas, to be repatriated to their countries of origin. A Customs and Border Protection official said that this decision showcases “the consequence of crossing illegally.”
Citizens of Mexico do not need a visa to travel to Canada, and migrants from other countries have also been contributing to the significant rise of migrant crossings at the northern border. In the last five months, the U.S. Border Patrol apprehended nearly 2,900 people crossing illegally from Canada to the United States, half of whom originally came from Mexico.
